St Mary Magdalene School, Greenwich
Sustainable Acoustics was commissioned by the Royal Borough of Greenwich to provide acoustic design advice for the construction of St. Mary Magdalene Church of England School, the proposed new school at Millennium Way, on the Greenwich Peninsula within site of the O2 arena. This site is affected by noise from London City Airport and the busy Millennium Way.
The performance specifications relate to indoor ambient noise levels in sensitive spaces, ventilation strategy, sound insulation between rooms, the reverberation time in sensitive rooms and speech intelligibility in open plan spaces.
The proposed project is part of the wider regeneration masterplan. The Peninsula campus is envisaged to be an all-through Church of England School. The all-through school consists of the following:
Nursery (26 places)
Standard 2 Form Entry Primary School (420 places)
Standard 6 Form Entry Secondary School (900 places)
6th Form (Post 16) (300 places)
Sustainable Acoustics set out how the acoustic design at Stage 3 of the design achieves compliance with Approved Document (Part E) of Schedule 1 of the Building Regulations (2010) and makes provision for meeting the Client body’s obligation under Regulation 7 of the School Premises Regulations (2012) (SPR).
