Audience comfort during concerts is an important part of the experience, and an investigation was carried out during a concert to determine the response of the stands and check that they did not create too much bounce with real audience activity.
Tower of London
We wrote a document setting out how proactive and preventative measures will minimise operational noise moving through this third run of summer events. Ultimately this document sets out how the organisers have minimised the risk of exceeding the advisory noise criteria for the events, and ultimately prevent causing a public or private nuisance; which is the objective of the agreement with HRP, The Licensing Act 2003 and Environmental Protection Act 1990.
Millbank Tower, London
Sustainable Acoustics has been instructed to investigate the acoustic sound insulation between floor 29 and 30; and the capacity of the music system to be able to reproduce a sound field that will not be intrusive to the commercial operation on the 30th floor.
Pitcher & Piano, Swansea
Marson’s have instructed Sustainable Acoustics Limited to assess and set the control measures for the generation of amplified music in the outside terrace in the premises known as Pitcher & Piano. The exercise was completed in response to the service of an abatement notice by Swansea City Council. The assessment also considers the noise levels inside the venue to balance the customer experience and consider the impact on staff.
Skylling Play Area, Newbury
Peter was instructed on behalf of a Town Council in a difficult case concerning an application under section 82 Environmental Protection Act 1990. As if often the case with section 82 cases the applicant was a litigant in person. Peter produced his report swiftly and it dealt with all the significant points regarding whether a statutory nuisance existed; his previous experience as a local authority officer and his general wealth of experience was a decisive factor in the subsequent litigation.
Nant Llesg
Miller Argent are planning to develop a new surface coal mine at Nant Llesg near their existing Ffos-y-fran mine at Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales. Miller Argent is keen to minimise any potential impacts in the local communities and has called upon the expertise of Sustainable Acoustics (previously The English Cogger Partnership), together with Curload Consultants Limited, to undertake the noise and vibration assessment for the Environmental Statement.

St Mary Magdalene School, Greenwich
Sustainable Acoustics was commissioned by the Royal Borough of Greenwich to provide acoustic design advice for the construction of St. Mary Magdalene Church of England School, the proposed new school at Millennium Way, on the Greenwich Peninsula within site of the O2 arena. This site is affected by noise from London City Airport and the busy Millennium Way.
St George the Martyr Church, Newbury
St George the Martyr Church in Newbury, carried out a significant refurbishments of its existing church building, including a provision for improving the acoustics within the main hall space where people were finding it difficult to hear speech. The small church was renowned for its warmth and for the acoustics that supported the sound of the choir, so the brief was to improve the space for speech without affecting its use.
QEF Leatherhead
Sustainable Acoustics is working with Capital and Provincial and Architects LOM to produce the acoustic strategy on the development of the Care and Rehabilitation Centre (CRC) and a workshop building to create a Charitable Hub providing communal facilities for QEF and other partner charities in their HQ in Leatherhead. The site is close to the M25.
Lighthouse, Poole
We act as the acoustic specialists for the refurbishment of the well-known Lighthouse, Poole’s centre for the arts. We work alongside award winning architect Design Engine, to assist in the £5.3 million refurbishment of the iconic building, Britain’s largest regional arts centre.

Riverside School
A pre-installed Yorkon concrete floor minimised work on site and is providing enhanced acoustics and a high quality, robust finish for a demanding school environment. Our services for this new free school involved setting out the requirements of BB 93. We are providing ongoing input on the acoustic issues associated with design of the building envelope. An extension to the Overground is to pass close to the school in the future and we have provided advice to mitigate the risk of noise from passing trains.
Kings Cross Central Development
The King’s Cross Central development is an ongoing 15-year construction plan coordinated by property developers King’s Cross Central General Partner Limited. A commitment was made in the Code of Construction Practice for the project to undertake noise monitoring for the project.
OXO2
Sustainable Acoustics were instructed by OXO2, to advise on matters of noise control from the venue known as OXO, which is located on the second floor of the OXO Tower, London. The OXO2 venue has residential space on the floor above, and there has been a history of the building offering poor sound insulation between floors.
OXO Tower Lifts, Coin Street
In December 2014, we completed an acoustic investigation of the noise and vibration generated by the OXO Tower lifts, and the goods lift in particular. Detailed measurements of vibration and noise within the flats allowed a diagnosis to be made and mitigation recommendations are being implemented as a result.

Bacton Low Rise, Camden
Vibration and structure-borne noise from passing passenger and freight trains can cause both perceivable vibration and audible noise within dwellings that radiates from the structure. Careful design of the foundations and structure enable adequate controls to be put in place that avoid problems once occupied. Sometimes structural isolation is necessary to meet appropriate standards and expectations, which can be a costly risk to a project.
Cedar Park Neuro Rehab Unit
Sustainable Acoustics, working with Design Engine Architects are delighted to be developing the acoustic strategy on Phase 1 of the Neuro-Rehab unit known as Cedar Park, in the village Enham Alamein, near Andover. The idea is that this facility assists with the introduction of people back into community-style living.
