On the 15th May, Peter Rogers, Co-Owner and Managing Director of Sustainable Acoustics and Angela Lamacraft, Senior Acoustician at the company were both awarded special service awards by the Institute of Acoustics (IoA).

Angela received her award for ‘Promoting Acoustics to the Public’ over the last 16 years and Pete won his award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Life of the Institute’.

Angela has made a huge contribution to the work of the institute promoting acoustics to the public, including starting an Inter-Professional Networking Event for young professionals; the purpose of the event was to increase understanding between people in different technical disciplines, including acoustics. Angela has also:

  • Set up engaging school competitions for primary and secondary school children

  • Participated in equity, diversity and inclusion events

  • Given an interactive acoustics presentation at a Pint of Science, a series of events for members of the public to learn about different sciences

  • Sat as a judge for the ‘Primary Engineer’ competition

  • Been interviewed for Winchester Science Centre for a video about an acoustic camera

  • Provided fun workshops for preschoolers, including a ‘higher or lower’ game and playing with an acoustic camera.

Sustainable Acoustics team would like to congratulate Angela on all the work she has been doing to promote acoustics to the public and all her achievements in this area.

Angela said,

“I am extremely proud to receive the Institute of Acoustic Award for Promoting Acoustics to the Public in recognition of the work I have done for the Institute. I love talking about acoustics to anyone who will listen, so it’s felt natural to present to different groups whenever the opportunity has arisen, including people who haven’t heard of the science of acoustics previously.”

She went on to say,

“I truly believe that we need to encourage children to think differently about STEM subjects to encourage more children to study them, including acoustics, and have relished the opportunity to engage with children over several initiatives.”

Peter said,

“Sustainable Acoustics fully supports staff contributing fully to the life and work of the IoA. It is part of the company’s ‘pillar four’ work. As we deliver the company’s vision, ‘acoustics for life’, we work with others in our field and in related industries on sustainability, policy and systemic change.”

Peter also received a special service award from the Institute of Acoustics recognising the massive contribution he has made to the life and work of the institute over the last 25 years.

Peter said,

“I have been a member of the institute for just over 25 years now, which is half the time the institute has been set up. In that time we have achieved many incredible things as an industry. I feel extremely honoured to receive this award which recognises the part I have played in helping to transform the acoustics industry to include a more sustainability focused approach to create a better world.”

He went on to say,

“But there is so much more we still need to do to as an industry to address the challenges of 21st century living; to improve communities - urban and rural, to tackle the environmental crisis and to hasten the green energy revolution. I am very much looking forward to continuing my work within the IoA, both as an individual and through the work of our company and to continue to support the contributions made to the acoustic industry by our staff, such as by Angela and others in the Sustainable Acoustics team.”

The recognition of Peter Rogers and Angela Lamacraft by the Institute of Acoustics underscores the profound impact that dedicated professionals can have on advancing the field of acoustics and promoting public awareness.
